About Good Shepherd
The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters, is an international religious congregation.
Called to a mission of reconciliation, the Good Shepherd Sisters commit themselves to live the Gospel message of Jesus, the Good Shepherd in the spirit of their Foundress, Saint Mary Euphrasia.
Rose Virginie Pelletier (1796-1868) was born on Noirmoutier island, France. At the age of 18, she joined the Order of Our Lady of Charity of the Refuge in Tours, France, receiving the name Mary Euphraisa.
In 1829, Saint Mary Euphrasia founded a new community of Our Lady of Charity in Angers, France. She named it “Good Shepherd” after an institution dedicated to the same mission that existed in Angers before the French Revolution.
Saint Mary Euphrasia envisioned a governing structure that would enable the sisters to carry on the mission globally. She requested permission from the pope to establish a Generalate (central administration), which, after much struggle and challenges, was granted in 1835. This new initiative resulted in the founding of the new Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd.
In Singapore, the Good Shepherd Sisters established Good Shepherd Convent Kindergarten in 1954 and Marymount Kindergarten in 1963 to provide quality early childhood education that encompass the Catholic values for young children. Both kindergartens were converted to Good Shepherd Preschool (2023) and Marymount Preschool (2020) respectively.
